Step 2: Complete the Fields on the Specimen Envelope
Complete and sign the Donor Information and Consent Form on the back of your specimen envelope.
Step 3: Open a Mouth Swab package
Wash and dry hands thoroughly. Tear open the sterile mouth swab package, and remove a single swab by holding the swab by the stick.
Step 4: Collect a DNA Sample
Scrape and rotate the swab vigorously on the inside surface of both cheeks of the appropriate individual for 30 seconds to collect loose cheek cells.
Step 5: Place your Swab into the Specimen Envelope
After sample collection, place the swab directly into the specimen envelope. Repeat these steps for the remaining swabs (2 per person).
Note: You MUST provide two (2) swabs per person.
Step 6: Allow to Air-Dry, then Seal
After all swabs are collected, let the swabs dry completely inside the specimen envelope at room temperature for 30 minutes, then remove the adhesive strip to seal.
Step 7: Mail your Samples
Return the samples directly to our lab using the prepaid USPS Return Package provided in the kit (available in the US only). Alternatively, you may also use your own preferred courier.
Tips & Reminders
-
You must use the swabs provided in this kit.
Do not use your own swabs. Testing will not proceed if you submit a sample that is not collected using the swabs provided in this kit. -
You must collect 2 swabs for every individual tested.
If you only send back only 1 out of the 2 swabs for an individual, testing may not proceed. -
Put the swabs into the correct specimen envelope.
If multiple kits have been ordered, only collect samples from one person at a time. Complete the collection for one individual before proceeding with the next collection. -
The swabs must be completely dry before you seal the specimen envelope.
Remember to allow at least 30 minutes for the swabs to dry before sealing the Specimen Envelope. If you skip this step, the DNA may degrade and you may not receive a result. -
Collect cheek cells, not saliva.
The objective is to collect loose cheek cells from the mouth, not saliva. -
You must activate your kit at www.securigene.com/activate.
Your samples will not be tested if you do not activate your kit. - Incorrect collection will result in delays in processing or no results.
Private DNA tests are intended for private knowledge only and cannot be used in court.
