The kits are designed to collect loose cheek cells and not saliva. Overly wet swabs that have not dried completely may cause the test to fail.
If the swabs are not allowed to dry completely before being sealed in the specimen envelope, trapped moisture can promote mould and bacterial growth during shipping, which may degrade the DNA. If this occurs, the test may fail and results will not be issued.

Please note: the laboratory can determine whether collection instructions were followed. If the swabs are received damp or moldy and the test fails as a result, a recollection will be required and additional fees will apply.
