If you ate within 1 hour before sample collection, or if a baby was breastfed within 3 hours before collection, the sample may be affected. Food residue or breast milk can contaminate the swab and may reduce the number of loose skin cells collected from the inside of the mouth, which can lead to insufficient DNA. In some cases, residual food or milk can also contribute to mold growth during shipping. If this occurs, a new sample may be required.
If your sample is affected, testing cannot be completed and the laboratory will contact you for recollection.
